What’s better than a beer in your hand at the beach? A beer in your hand at the beach during Happy Hour! This summer the Virginia Beach Surf & Rescue Museum is hosting weekly Happy Hours, every Wednesday at our museum from 6-8pm. From now until Labor Day, we will be serving up brewskis and vino with our doors wide open, inviting the summer air into our newly renovated museum. It’s the perfect time to either wind down your evening after being at the beach all day, or start your night out with a few brews at one of the most unique places on the Boardwalk.

Admission to the museum is free during Happy Hour, and drink tickets are available. You are free to roam around, grab a snack and get a beverage. After you’ve meandered through our museum, step outside into our yard for some cornhole and life-sized Jenga. Really, what more could you ask for?

At our Happy Hours, we’re featuring a limited edition Lifeguard Lager beer. Brewed locally by Smartmouth Brewing Company, our Lifeguard Lager has a smooth start with a hoppy finish. It’s everything you’ve ever wanted in a salt life inspired beer. Even the can alludes to our beachy beginnings and our town’s surf and rescue spirit. Being a lifesaving-focused museum, we only thought it appropriate to name our beer after our mission and our motivation. It’s a brew you won’t want to miss out on this summer.

Can’t make it to Happy Hour but still want to taste test Lifeguard Lager? You can also find it for sale up and down the boardwalk, at Holiday Inn & Suites North Beach (39th Street), Sheraton Virginia Beach Oceanfront Hotel (35th Street), Holiday Inn Va Beach-Oceanside (21st Street), and SpringHill Suites Virginia Beach Oceanfront (9th Street). The perk? A portion of the proceeds come back to benefit the museum.

After getting a little taste of the Lifeguard Lager, mosey on down to the Smartmouth Pilot House, where our brew was born. Their beers on tap are delicious, and they offer a style for every palate. They have gluten free beer called Crowdsource, which is a game-changer. The Pilot House is much larger than their Norfolk location (if you’ve ever been), offering more seating and room to gather around with friends and family. They have board games, magazines, and really everything to keep you occupied while you wet your whistle. Since they are less than a block from the oceanfront (literally, right across the street) get some drinks, then head to the boardwalk for dinner or vice versa. You have a plethora of options.

Get your summer started the right way, strolling through our museum with a beer in your hand. Our Lifeguard Lager is only here for a short time. Come get it while it’s hot (or cold, rather)! It’s also worth mentioning that we are pretty into themed parties. Every Happy Hour this summer will be Hawaiian Shirt (or dress, or blouse, or hat) themed. Come decked out in your favorite summer-themed garb and a grab a brew.
