They say there’s no place like home. Although I can attest to that, I love that Virginia Beach brings different city styles to the area in its local restaurants, bars, and activities. Considering Hampton Roads is home to many colleges and military bases, the amount of people migrating here from other states is enormous. The great thing about that is we get to experience different things that are popular in other states. Wrapping up my Diversity at the Beach series, I wanted to touch on some of the different city-style restaurants in the area.

I could write a whole series on pizza. Pizza is its own genre, and for that, it brings me great pleasure to introduce you to Windy City Pizza in Virginia Beach. From pizza to hot dogs, this Chicago-style restaurant serves everything, well, Chicago-styled. Even their ingredients are from Chicago, and that my dear friends is dedication. So, if you’re from Chicago, come experience a little piece of home. Windy City Pizza assuredly passes any test of Chicago validity.

Albie’s Pizza Bar is located at the oceanfront and offers New York-style pizza. They offer “stuffed pizzas,” like their Supreme stuffed cheese pizza or a Hot & Spicy stuffed pizza. My mouth is watering at the thought of the Hot & Spicy stuffed pizza because if you haven’t noticed by now, I love spicy. You also have the option to create your own pizza, or enjoy their different pastas and salads. Albie’s would be a great place to unwind for a good drink and a casual lunch or dinner after visiting the beach.

If you’re looking for a “Bite of Philly,” Iggles Cheesesteaks & Burgers is an absolute must. Serving the best Cheesesteaks in Virginia Beach, this sports-themed restaurant has Philadelphia written all over it, literally. Along with being known for their cheesesteaks, Iggles also serves cheesesteak eggrolls that look just as good as they sound. They know cheesesteaks, and you’re not going to find anything in the area like it.

Another Philadelphia-inspired place is the Philly Pretzel Factory. I’m going to be completely honest, I had no idea Philadelphia was known for having great pretzels, but this place proves that to be true. Enjoy Philadelphia style, fresh, soft pretzels at this family-owned franchise. Philly Pretzel Factory is the world’s largest Philly-style pretzel bakery, and everything on the menu is guaranteed to be served hot out of the oven.

I hope that this series has made you more than ready to start making travel plans to Virginia Beach. Let Virginia Beach be your home away from home. With all the area has to offer, I assure you home will never seem so far away.
