Christmas is just days away, and many people still haven’t finished their holiday shopping. Shopping during the holidays can be difficult and extremely stressful, especially if you’re tight on money. I happen to be one of those people that wait until the last minute to finish their holiday shopping. I dread going to department stores this time of year and always have the hardest time finding gifts for my loved ones that also fit my budget. I’m grateful for online shopping and two-day shipping, but sometimes I just can’t find the gift I’m looking for (shocker, I know).

This year is the first time in a very long time that I’ve actually gotten all of my shopping done in a timely manner and within my budget. I have the museum’s gift shop to thank for that. We have so many different types of merchandise that would make a great gift at a reasonable price. Whether it’s a book or some jewelry, a coffee mug or a t-shirt, we have something that will make your loved ones happy and fit into your budget.

A lot of people start their day off with a cup of coffee, so why not get them a new coffee mug? We have a plethora of mugs that would be a perfect last minute gift. Not to mention, the majority of our mugs cost $9.95 before tax. If they are more of a tea drinker, you could add a box of Lifeboat Tea. A box of the tea bags with a mug would be a perfect last minute gift idea. We also have many non-fiction books that tell stories of historical events, ghosts, nature, and life in Hampton Roads 50+ years ago. Any of these books would be a great gift for someone who loves to read and learn new history.

Another quick and easy last minute gift is an ornament! At the museum we have quite a few ornaments that would look great on anyone’s Christmas tree for years to come! We have wooden ornaments with the museum’s logo on it and mini Adirondack chairs with Virginia Beach written on one of the arms. We also have leather ornaments of sea creatures, lighthouses, and ducks made by local artist Jan Barco. The leather ornaments are a bit pricier than the wooden ones, but they would all make a great gift.

I don’t know about you, but I have a few people in my life that like to collect magnets and shot glasses. Wherever they travel, they get something that represents the place they visited. Even when I travel out of town, they sometimes ask me to bring back one of these souvenirs. If you have someone in your life like this, you could definitely get him or her a few magnets or shot glasses from the gift shop! These items range from $3.95 to $8.95 before taxes and would be a great addition to any gift.

I could go on and on about all the different merchandise we carry in the shop, but then I would just be listing everything we sell here! I’m not exaggerating when I say that everything in the gift shop would be a perfect gift for someone this holiday season. If you are still Christmas shopping, I highly recommend coming to the museum and browsing through the gift shop. It will be less stressful and a lot easier to shop here than in any department store this close to Christmas. The museum and gift shop will be open until December 23rd for all your last minute shopping needs!
