Hi! My name is Jordan, and I recently started a Business Management internship with the Virginia Beach Surf & Rescue Museum. I am a student at Christopher Newport University, studying Finance and Marketing. I found this internship through the CNU Career Center. When I researched the museum, it seemed to have a lot of cool information and fun community events. I have always loved the beach and the ocean, so it seemed like a place where I would fit right in.

I was extremely excited to start my internship. I have never worked for a non-profit organization before, so I wasn’t sure what to expect. I knew I would be running the gift shop and helping with merchandising, but was not sure how all of that fit into a museum setting. I hope to come out of this internship with a better understanding not only how to manage a store efficiently, but also how non-profit organizations function and support their operations. I’ve only ever worked for companies focused on product sales, so it will be interesting to see how admissions income and event ticket sales play factor in.

I hope I can learn a lot through this internship. This will be one of my first opportunities to learn independently, with help and guidance when I need it. I also want to help the museum as much as I can using my skills. It is a great environment to work in. I look forward to going to my internship, because it is a relaxed workplace, and the people here are very nice and inviting. It has been a pretty neat experience so far, and I can’t wait to continue.
