Summary:

The intern will be responsible for processing portions of the museum’s archival collections. This will include scanning a mix of documents and photographs, as well as assigning appropriate meta-data to each file. The intern will also research and produce a new exhibit for the museum’s galleries. This internship will provide an excellent look into archival management and the types of historical research done at a small museums.

Responsibilities:

  • Scanning portions of the collection, including a mix of documents and photographs
  • Researching a specific time period or event in Virginia Beach history to create a new exhibit – Intern will have the ability to choose their own project
  • Examine primary documents such as newspapers, photographs, and museum archives
  • Summarize findings in an engaging and succinct way for museum visitors
  • Assist in updating and maintaining museum exhibits and displays
  • Identifying possible grant or sponsor funding for the research, and assisting staff in preparing necessary paperwork
