Saturday, October 27th, everyone at the museum anticipated the start of our first ever SpookEasy event. The Halloween Spookeasy allowed museum staff and volunteers, along with guests, to get dressed up in their snazziest 20’s costumes and enjoy a night full of music, food, and of course, ghosts. I got to observe the event from behind the bar serving wine, but it was a fun night for all.

This event was inspired by a Speakeasy event the museum held last year. This year, they decided to add a twist to create a ghoulish Halloween effect, which led to the coining of the term “Spookeasy.” Creative, right? Tickets for the event were sold online and all proceeds benefited the museum and its mission to honor, celebrate, and preserve Virginia Beach coastal history.

The crowd was intimate, but they set the tone for a memorable night. The event was perfect for a themed date night or just a night out with friends. We transformed both floors of the museum to create a spooky atmosphere. Guests could enjoy food and ghost hunting equipment in the upper gallery, or head downstairs to listen to music and enjoy drinks. As the room filled up with jazz tunes, people were busy conversing, drinking, and later, some even took their best 1920’s moves to the dance floor.

It was great to meet new people and listen to the stories they shared. Personally, I spent so much time engaging with guests, that by the time I looked down at my phone, I was sad that it was already 9:30 PM. All in all, it was a great night, full of wonderful people. Be on the lookout for information regarding next year’s event on the museum’s website.
