Many of our volunteers come and go with the seasons. They’re students, interns, or active duty military members, whose lives take them other places. Other volunteers, like Marty, remain with us year after year, working in our galleries to offer visitors a more interesting and informative experience than they could have alone. Here’s what he had to say about his time with us.
“Being a volunteer at the Virginia Beach Surf & Rescue Museum has allowed me to share my experiences and interest in maritime and Coast Guard history with the many visitors that come to Virginia Beach. In particular, I enjoy meeting the many people who come from all parts of our country, and international visitors as well, to share with them the rich maritime heritage of our region.”
Marty has been volunteering with us since 2013. As a retired Coast Guard Captain, he brings a special kind of knowledge and connection to the tours he offers. Stop in on Friday mornings for a chance to learn more about our building and the area’s rich Coast Guard heritage from someone who lived it.
