Many of our dedicated volunteers are active duty military members. They take time out of their busy schedules to continue serving, as volunteers. Most were drawn by the name, by the mission, and by the stories of the men who served here, long before their time. Victor is one of those volunteers. Here’s what he had to say about his time with us.

“I can’t explain how it feels to be a part of the volunteer team without giving the details of my day at VBSRM. It begins with smiling faces as soon as I step inside that recognizable white building with a million stories to be told, craving that friendly ear to pour out its history. Soon after I find myself going through books that have seen their share of readers, giving me detailed pictures of what life was like along the Virginia Coast back before the Internet was ever heard of.

As soon as I close out the world with my head in a book, I’m needed in the front for a member tour in the lookout tower! There is absolutely nothing better than being able stand where look-outs used to spot ships in need and share my new found knowledge about the surrounding area. From giving friendly tours to opening a new world of history, the days I share with the team at the Virginia Beach Surf & Rescue Museum can be described as well, unexpected. But don’t take my word for it, go experience it yourself and see what you uncover.”

We’re proud to have Victor and several of his fellow service men and women volunteer with us. They are dedicated, hard working, and wonderful to have around. Check out how you can join our volunteer team today!
